Katie first fell in love with yoga in 1985 and has been practicing ever since. She was born on the Big Island (Honoka‘a), and after spending several years living in various mainland locales, she returned to the island with her family in 2001. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from Tulane University and a master’s degree in education from Stanford University. Throughout her studies and life working as a mom, Spanish teacher, and writer/editor, she has always devoted time to the practice and study of yoga. She has trained with teachers Jim and Ruthie Bernaert as well as Nancy Candea and is greatly influenced by their heart-centered, alignment-based approaches. She is especially interested in the healing potential of yoga, yoga therapeutics, and yoga philosophy. Katie believes every person/body is unique and she teaches the importance of caring for and listening deeply to oneself.
