What? A 75 hour Yoga Immersion that focuses on the therapeutic use of yoga and includes instruction in yoga poses, breathing techniques, meditation, philosophy, Ayurveda, anatomy and yoga lifestyle. AND, for those who would like to become yoga teachers, you may continue your journey by folding those hours into a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT), culminating in certification from the Yoga Alliance.
When? The immersion runs from August 11th –November 4th 2018. The full teacher training will run from August 11th-January 20, 2019. Specific dates below.
What sets this training apart from other teacher trainings? This training is highly focused on the healing aspects of yoga and how to use the skills gained in daily life. It is geared towards the general public and has an emphasis on the ways yoga can benefit us in today’s world.
Will I be able to register with the Yoga Alliance after I have completed my yoga teacher certification? Yes! The instructor, Chelsea Morriss, is working under the supervision of Nancy Candea, the director of Yoga Impact, which is a RYS (Registered Yoga School) with the Yoga Alliance since 2008.
Do I need yoga experience before I join the Immersion or the Yoga Teacher Training? It is highly recommended that you have at least a few months of yoga classes before you start the Immersion. Although there are no strict prerequisites for joining the teacher training, it is very intensive, and you really want to make sure that you are making the right investment in your future.
Can anyone become a yoga teacher? YES! Chelsea’s passion is to bring yoga to all demographics and populations. The diversity of teachers is what will spread yoga and its amazing benefits to more and more people.
What is my personal commitment? The personal investment is to your health, happiness and wellness. The immersion and the teacher training are designed to help us all gain insight into what makes us happy, how we can heal ourselves, and how to take the practices off the mat and into our daily life. The skills you learn will give you valuable tools to use in your life and in your community, empowering you to become the best version of yourself.
What is the time investment? In addition to the training hours, you will be asked to commit to a daily home practice. This can be of your choosing: 5 minutes of breathing and meditation, or asana, or an hour-long practice. What we have seen is that even after 5 minutes of focused breathing, our day-to-day experience is richer and less stressful.
What is the financial investment? The Immersion is $1000 for 75 hours of instruction (only $950 if you pay your deposit of $500 by June 15). This fee will be applied toward the Certified Yoga Teacher Training if you choose to continue the journey.
The Yoga Teacher Training is $2500 for 200 hours of instruction (only $2300 if you pay your deposit of $500 by June 15). It includes 6 months of unlimited yoga classes at Waimea Yoga!
Do I need to buy books? You will need to purchase two books:
The Key Muscles of Yoga by Ray Long
The Heart of Yoga by Desikachar
