Maya Parish was born and raised in Manhattan, NYC, earned a BA in Psychology from The University of California at Santa Cruz, and has been a happy and grateful Big Island resident since 2013. She has completed two 200-hour Yoga Alliance Certified yoga teacher training programs, the first in Hatha Yoga and the second in Integrative Yoga Therapy. She holds an E-RYT designation, having taught over 1,000 hours of yoga instruction, and is currently working toward her 500-hour certification with Janet Stone Yoga.
Maya works privately with residents and visitors to Hawai‘i Island, designing personalized programs for each individual. She teaches weekly adult group classes at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, Mauna Lani Bay and Bungalows, and her home studio space in Hawi. She also teaches weekly yoga to K-5 students at Kohala Elementary School with Keiki Yoga Kohala. She is thrilled to join the sangha at Waimea Yoga!
Drawing from philosophy, poetry, inspiration from her teachers and her own intuition, she weaves together a holistic experience for her students that has a lasting resonance in the entire being. Maya invites her students to experience the yogic symphony of movement and stillness through the body, breath, heart, mind, voice and spirit. Before moving to Hawaiʻi, Maya worked in Los Angeles as an actress, playwright, producer, yoga teacher, and communication facilitator.
